Outreach & Education
LakeCities Ballet Theatre is committed to offering quality educational and outreach programs allowing public school teachers, students of all ages and the community to experience the joy and magic of live ballet. Regardless of financial or geographical barriers, LakeCities Ballet reaches out through a variety of programs enhancing the knowledge of not only the artistic commitment of dance, but also the beauty of classical and modern music. LBT’s programs are supported by generous contributions from public minded corporations, individuals, foundations, government agencies and by a broad base of community support.
October marks the beginning of our season with “Le Ballet De Dracula.” In 2010 and 2011 we partnered with Carter Bloodcare and implemented a “Dracula Blood Drive” in Lewisville.
Through our Girl Scout program, we offer discounted tickets to Girl Scout troops for all of our productions. LBT provides the Girl Scouts with educational opportunities including free backstage tours to allow them a behind-the-scenes peek at what it takes to produce a show. For more information about Girl Scout tours click here.
We also offer free pre-performance workshops to children and teems prior to “Dracula” and our “Spring Gala” performances. Theses workshops have included activities such as learning simple choreography from the show, crafts, lecture/demonstrations, refreshments, meeting cast members and on-stage photos with cast members.
LBT is also very proud to be a part of Lewisville Independent School District’s “School Mentoring Program” providing an opportunity for LBT to bring our classic Peter and the Wolf and excerpts from our Nutcracker to area Title I schools. The scores of both of these ballets are part of the music curriculum in the public schools, and music teachers are always grateful for the visual experience we can provide with the music they are introducing to their students.

Peter and the Wolf: Lecture & Demonstration
In 1936, composer Sergei Prokofiev wrote Peter and the Wolf in just two weeks for a children’s theater in Moscow. Prokofiev invented the story and wrote the narration himself, drawing on memories of his own childhood. He constructed the music as a child’s introduction to the orchestra, with each character in the story represented by a different instrument or group of instruments. Peter and the Wolf was an immediate success and has been loved by children all over the world. The music is sophisticated enough to be enjoyed by adults, even through repeated hearings. And it’s moral – you can’t be a hero if you don’t take risks – delights children as it must have cheered the composer.
Because of the huge success of the Lewisville Lake Symphony’s and LakeCities Ballet Theatre’s annual Popcorn Concert featuring Peter and the Wolf, LakeCities Ballet Theatre has for a number of years brought a smaller version of this production to area elementary schools. To bring LakeCities Ballet Theatre and Peter and the Wolf to your school. Please ask your music teacher, principle or PTA to contact us at for this exciting learning opportunity.
Nutcracker: Lecture & Demonstration
LakeCities Ballet Theatre’s extravagant annual production of The Nutcracker has been called a shining gem in the Lake Cities area. Unfortunately, there are always those who are unable to attend this event. Because of that, LBT introduced The Nutcracker Lecture and Demonstration Series. With the help of Lewisville Independent School District’s “School Mentoring Program”, LBT takes excerpts of the full length The Nutcracker and brings them to local area schools.
With a full lecture by Artistic Director, Kelly Lannin, the story and brief history of The Nutcracker is explained to the children as well as how the commitment and hard work of our dancers was what made it possible for them to reach the level of expertise they have achieved. This is then followed by a performance of the highlights from LBT’s The Nutcracker.
